Carol & Blaine’s Vist

This week started with an “Elwin Pie” for lunch at the Riverside Inn with friends before visiting the Ironbridge. The world’s first cast iron bridge was completed while we were still engaged in our Revolutionary War.  Then stopped at the Boat Inn for a drink and a quick check of the water level.

On Sunday we visited the Blist Hill Victorian Village - just down the road from home.  It brings to life the sights, sounds, and smells of the Industrial Revolution, which had its start right here in the Ironbridge Gorge.

Monday saw us travel to Warwickshire to visit Stratford-upon-Avon where we visited Shakespeare’s birthplace and and then to the theatre where we saw Macbeth performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company. We stayed overnight and spent the following day at Warwick Castle. Built in 1088, it is now owned by the Madame Tussaud Group that does the famous waxworks in London. A trip to the dungeons during the Black Plague, and a Royal weekend party in 1898 attended by the then Prince of Wales and a young 23 year old Winstone Churchill.

Wednesday we went to Wales (they let Blaine in even though he had forgotten his passport). Drove up over Horseshoe Pass and then to Betws-y-Coed for fish and chips by the waterfalls. A short journey up to Conwy Castle for a walk around the walls followed by a visit to Llandudno for a walk on the sand and another on the pier. Finished the day with dinner at the Corn Mill Inn in LLangollen.

Thursday may have been Blaine’s favorite. We went to Liverpool to see the Cavern Club where the Beatles got their start.  Didn’t think I could get Blaine out of there.  Spent the afternoon in Chester town centre, famous for its unique two-level “Rows” - shops at both the street level and more at the first floor level (that’s the second floor for those of you in the US)

A fantastic two weeks with great friends - we are already making plans for next time!!
